Opening Reception – Wandering Spirit: African Wax Prints

July 12 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

wandering_spirit

Please join us on Friday, July 12, 2019 for the opening reception of “Wandering Spirit: African Wax Prints.” We’re thrilled that Designer/Stylist Korto Momolu-Briggs will speak at 6:30pm. Music will be provided by Zinse Agginie’s Percussion Quartet. This exhibition is a tribute to the century-old handmade designs and patterns on textiles that originated in Indonesia and were copied and industrialized by Europeans and exported to Africa. “Wandering Spirit: African Wax Prints” traces the developmental pathway of the African wax print and tells how these fabrics reflect the stories, dreams, and personalities of the people who wear them. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Gifty Benson and organized by ExhibitsUSA/Mid-America Arts Alliance, Kansas City, Missouri. It will be on display at UA-PTC July 12 – October 5, 2019.
