Event Details
Festival of the Senses, the performing arts series sponsored by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 4106 JFK Boulevard, will present An Evening of Schubert featuring his Piano Quintet in A Major (“The Trout”) on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be dedicated to the memory of beloved community leader and philanthropist E. Lee Ronnel and performed by five principal musicians from the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra: Kiril Laskarov, violin; Katherine Williamson, viola; David Gerstein, cello; Russell Thompson, double bass; and Carl Anthony, piano. The song on which the quintet’s fourth movement is based, “Die Forelle” (“The Trout”), will be sung by soprano Stephanie Smittle together with another lied, “Litanei.”
Festival of the Senses is a performing arts series created in 2011 as a gift of the arts to the community to entertain, enlighten, and inspire. It is the only year-long concert series of its kind in North Little Rock showcasing the region’s most distinguished and dedicated musicians and performing artists in a wide range of musical genres including classical, bluegrass, gospel, opera, rock and roll, and Americana, plus dance, drama, and comedy. All Festival of the Senses programs are free and open to the public, thanks to the generosity of series sponsors, donors, audience members, and grants from the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The series’ 2023-24 season will continue on Saturday, November 18, with a performance by the Turtle Creek Chorale, and in December the Natural State Brass Band will play a selection of holiday music.
