Explore an extensive collection of cameras at the North Little Rock Heritage Center‘s latest exhibit, “Picture This: Capturing History Through the Camera Lens.”

This free exhibit at the North Little Rock Heritage Center features the camera collection of local photographer Jim Billings. Using Billings’ extensive collection and expertise, the exhibit explores the history of cameras and photography. His largest camera, dating to 1914 is a Kodak No. 10A Century Studio camera.

Cameras from 1910 to the 2000s make up the collection, including 35-millimeter models, Brownie snapshot cameras that put photography in the hands of amateurs, digital cameras and movie cameras, such as the Bell & Howell home-movie camera used by Abraham Zapruder to inadvertently film the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.

The exhibit traces the explosion of photography from a cumbersome process to the instantaneous process of today. Iconic photo journalism images will also be displayed, as well as numerous portraits and scenes of North Little Rock history as recorded by local studios and photographers.

The exhibit is open to visitors Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the North Little Rock Heritage Center at 506 Main Street in North Little Rock through Spring 2020.
